This week, Multichannel News reported that NBN Co plans to deliver gigabit speeds using DOCSIS 3.1 starting in 2017. This news comes just weeks after NBN Co announced ARRIS will play a major role in upgrading the Australian government-owned entity’s HFC networks.

In other industry news, FierceCable highlighted newly published research from Strategy Analytics that shows that the top pay TV operators gained more than 100,000 video subscribers in Q4 ’14.

Similarly, Broadband Technology Report noted that pay TV revenues in the Asia Pacific region are expected to grow by $10 billion between 2014 and 2020 according to Digital TV Research.

Separately, Advanced Television reported research from The Diffusion Group that found that more than 20 percent of U.S. adult broadband users who stream content are considered ‘cord cheaters,’ a term to describe consumers who access streaming content services using account information belonging to someone they do not live with.

Finally, USA Today covered the results of a recent Nielsen report that indicated that 41 percent of U.S. homes have access to a streaming video on demand (SVoD) subscription service.
