The 2017 ARRIS Racing Season in Mexico

From the start, ARRIS Racing has shared a passion for developing young talent in racing, alongside Carlos Slim Domit and Escudería. ARRIS is continuing its support of young Latin American drivers—renewing its sponsorship of Abraham Calderón, who last season won the Freightliner Truck Series in Mexico, and sponsoring 21-year-old Mexican driver Fabián Welter, who is currently Driver 1 in the Telmex® Driver Development Program.

NASCAR PEAK MEXICO SERIES

Race: Corriendo por Puebla
Round: 11
Venue: Autódromo Miguel E. Abed
City: Amozoc, Puebla
Sunday, October 16 2017

ABRAHAM CALDERÓN (#2 ARRIS-Telcel)
NASCAR PEAK – 8th

Abraham Calderón is closer than ever to another NASCAR PEAK Championship. The ARRIS driver finished eighth on Sunday at Autódromo Miguel E. Abed and is just one step away from the title, which would be the second in his career.

The Monterrey driver was close to the win in the last lap, but had a trouble with a tire and lost a few positions. Nevertheless, Abraham has an advantage of 23 points over the championship’s second place driver, Rubén Rovelo. The last round will be held at Mexico City’s Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on November 12th.

Abraham’s quote: “I wanted the win. It is a pity. We had a trouble with a tire when I was running in second. However, I got good points for the championship. We have to keep working to go to the final race in the best shape. The goal is the title for Team ARRIS”.

FABIÁN WELTER (#3 ARRIS-Escudería Telmex)
NASCAR PEAK CHALLENGE – 1st

Fabián Welter got his fifth win of the season and clinched the championship in advance with one more round remaining. The young ARRIS driver drove a smart race, waiting for a good chance to get the lead in the last laps. Now, he has 440 points unofficially, enough to become the champion of the series.

Fabián’s quote: “What can I say? I am very happy! We won the race and the championship. I’m very grateful with the boys and all the people in Team ARRIS. They did a great job all season. Now, we going to celebrate at Hermanos Rodríguez in the final”.

Fabian Welter Ruiz

Fabian Welter Ruiz joined the ARRIS Racing team in 2017 and in his inaugural race for ARRIS in Monterrey, Mexico, he won first place in the NASCAR PEAK Challenge!  Clearly, Fabian shows a lot of potential for ARRIS in the #3 car.

Fabian is from Mexico City and started his racing experience with Karting in 2003. In 2010, he began preparing for the Formula VEE 1800 and won Rookie of the Year in 2011.

In 2012 at age 16, Fabian won the first race of the British Formula Ford in the Duratec category in his debut in England. He also won the second race, plus an impressive 4-place overall.

Since then, he has won various accolades including the 2015 NASCAR Stock V6 testing Escuderia Telmex Championship, the 2016 NASCAR Driving for Diversity Program Driver 1 distinction (promoted of Jimmy Morales and Alejandro Suarez), and the 2017 GPI Karting International Race Championship.

Fabian is currently Driver 1 in the Telmex® Driver Development Program.

Abraham Calderon Cardoza
NASCAR México Toyota Series

Abraham Calderón is in his third season as an ARRIS driver and he opened the 2017 season with a first place finish in the Freightliner Truck Series race in Monterrey, Mexico!  He is also the reigning champ, winning the Freightliner Truck Series as an ARRIS driver in 2016.  Abraham is also currently racing in the ARRIS #2 car in the NASCAR PEAK Mexico V8 Series.

Abraham started racing in the local karting series in his hometown, Monterrey, Mexico, in 1998 when he was 8 years old. In his first season in the Junior I Series, Calderón won first place in three races and third place in three others. The following year, he won the Junior I Series championship.
In 2002, he won the Yamaha Sportsman Championship and the 2002 International Karting Race. After his early successes in various karting series, he moved into the national T4 series in 2005. The following season, he won the T4 national championship.

He joined the NASCAR Mexico Series in 2007, receiving three top 10 awards after a bumpy start. In 2009, Calderón changed teams and improved his record to one top 5 and six top 10 finishes.  Calderón finished in the top 10 in the 2011 season and placed in the top 3 twice, the top 5 twice and the top 10 seven times in the 2012 season.

In 2013, he won the NASCAR Mexico Series race in Phoenix, Arizona, and placed in the top 3 once and the top 10 twice in the second half of the season.  In 2014, Calderón took first in the NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series Championship as a member of the Escuderia Telcel-Telmex team.
