At ARRIS, we like design; we like our pendant lamps and our “open concept” living spaces. We also like it when our Wi-Fi® works. And just like you, we expect it to work all the time. One way to ensure the fast and flawless performance of your wireless router or gateway is to put it out in the open, as our engineers intended.

If you cover up your router, you risk compromising your Wi-Fi performance, create a lack of ventilation and reduce your product’s lifespan. Just don’t do it.

And remember: placement is actually one of the most important factors when it comes to Wi-Fi performance. Check out the reasons and our recommendations, here.

So while covering up your router may seem like a good idea at the time, you’ll likely look back on the decision as people did with their water beds in the 70s: totally unnecessary, barely functional, and potentially damaging.
