Coverage with performance
Wi-Fi has become the fourth domestic utility. It’s the primary means for consumers to connect to and use the many web messaging, social and content services. Today it's the quality of Wi-Fi that defines their perception of the broadband service.
Even as the number of connected devices continues to grow, consumers expect excellent coverage everywhere in their home. As broadband connections deliver gigabit speeds, they expect faster Wi-Fi throughout.
Consumers are prepared to pay for solutions to their Wi-Fi problems. This has been proven by the growth in retail sales of mesh Wi-Fi products which account for over 40 percent of retail Access Point revenues in North America3.
At ARRIS, we help Service Providers meet and exceed subscriber’s expectations with solutions that improve Wi-Fi coverage and performance. We make it simple for consumers to self-install and use, essential to reduce the high volume of Wi-Fi related calls to Service Provider support channels.
Our solutions make it possible for Service Providers to deliver premium services, like UHD sports. IoT and VR, over Wi-Fi. We provide the consistency needed to deliver service promises that increase customer satisfaction.
The ARRIS HomeAssure solution
At ARRIS, our approach is to focus on the consumer’s experience by addressing the most common issues driving dissatisfaction and Operator support costs.

Simple consumer self-installation
Great Wi-Fi starts with home network devices that are easy to install.
ARRIS HomeAssure enabled Wi-Fi extenders automatically use the same SSID and Wi-Fi password as the gateway. The HomeAssure app guides consumers through the best placement of extenders in the home with step-by-step installation instructions. It works with the gateway for simple extender-gateway pairing. And, once complete, a signal strength test ensures the extender to gateway connection is optimal.
Enable consumers to make the most of their Wi-Fi network
The HomeAssure app helps consumers view essential information and perform simple network management tasks like:
- Viewing their Wi-Fi password or SSID information
- Seeing what’s happening on their network, for example, who’s connected and how much data they are using
- Enabling / disabling guest access or removing people and devices from their network
- Setting parental controls to limit children’s network access
For Service Providers, calls to the support team can be avoided by empowering customers to perform simple diagnostics and troubleshooting themselves under the guidance of the app. Using the app, consumers can:
- Use the Wi-Fi spot meter to identify areas of poor coverage
- Measure both broadband and Wi-Fi connection speeds to help diagnose performance issues
Voice Assistants are a common and popular way of controlling smart appliances in the home. HomeAssure may be integrated with services such as Amazon Alexa, or the Service Provider's assistant, to allow consumers to manage their network using voice commands.
Simplicity from sophisticated control
HomeAssure works behind the scenes and much of its capabilities are hidden from the consumer.
Behind the scenes, the ARRIS Home Network Controller (HNC) optimizes network performance in real-time with no subscriber intervention. It seamlessly moves devices between APs that have better performance characteristics based on parameters like signal strength and AP utilization.
Fast Steering capability, also known as BSS Transition Management (BTM), moves 802.11v compliant devices between APs in milliseconds, enhancing services such as voice or video calling over Wi-Fi.
Band Steering automatically moves devices from a saturated band or channel to avoid congestion.
Steering may be application aware. Using deep packet inspection to identify devices and applications, it applies policies to prioritize services, for example prioritizing OTT Video to tablets.
HomeAssure Cloud adds additional capabilities; by gathering Wi-Fi metrics from across the customer population and AI-based analytics it provides tools for the operations team to pro-actively improve service and update steering policies.
Until recently, consumers chose one mesh solution and couldn’t mix and match mesh devices from different vendors. In May 2018, the Wi-Fi Alliance introduced Wi-Fi CERTIFIED EasyMesh™, changing the mesh landscape for the better.
Now, devices that are Wi-Fi CERTIFIED EasyMesh™ have been validated by the Wi-Fi Alliance to conform to the Multi-AP (MAP) Standard. This means that certified extenders and gateways will work together in a multi-vendor mesh Wi-Fi network.
For Service Providers, it aids multi-sourcing and opens up the opportunity to on-board and manage retail extenders as part of their home Wi-Fi service.
While the MAP standard specifies the communication protocol between home network devices, it does not standardize the optimization logic controlling the overall performance of the network. This is provided by the ARRIS Home Network Controller (HNC) software.
ARRIS was instrumental in developing the MAP standard and the ARRIS VAP4641 Wi-Fi Extender is the World’s first Wi-Fi CERTIFIED EasyMesh device.
ARRIS VAP4641 - Wi-Fi Certified EasyMesh Extender
The VAP4641 has a 4x4 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi radio, with the highest regulatory power levels, for the best Wi-Fi coverage and performance within the home. Its attractive design provides options for placement in the home, either plugged into a power outlet or placed on a desk, shelf, or table.
Standards-based modular solutions
